How to switch measuring devices
You can change your measuring device at any time by going to the app’s top menu > My device > Switch device.
Before switching devices, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- For a better experience, we recommend only switching measuring devices at the start of a new cycle.
- Please keep in mind that you should avoid switching measuring devices too often, not only to stay in the habit of measuring with your chosen device but also because this may otherwise delay ovulation detection and cause more Red Days (NC° Birth Control) or Brown Days (NC° Plan Pregnancy).
- You should also never use two measuring devices simultaneously (either of the same kind or two different kinds). You can read more about this here: Can I use two devices at the same time?.
- When using Natural Cycles with a wearable device, you won’t be able to log any temperature data manually. This is to prevent measuring with two devices at the same time – we write more about this here: Why different measuring devices give different temperatures.
What happens to my past data when I switch devices?
When switching devices, your past temperatures from your previous device will still be visible in the app (e.g., in the Graph and Add Data views), but the algorithm will no longer take them into account when assessing your day-to-day fertility status.
It’s expected that the absolute temperature values will differ between measuring devices, and because the algorithm looks for the smallest changes in temperature to analyze your cycle, the temperatures from different devices are not mixed. As a result, your cover line will disappear, and the algorithm will eventually establish a new cover line based solely on the temperatures from your new device.
The algorithm will continue to use your previously detected cycle characteristics (such as ovulation days or cycle lengths) in the predictions for the upcoming cycles. All your cycle statistics from your past cycles will also still be visible on the Cycle Insights page.
Please note that the Natural Cycles app will only import wearable device data from the date you switched devices in the NC° app. Learn more about this here: Why isn’t my NC° app showing past data from my wearable device?
Are specific devices more effective?
There are no differences in NC° Birth Control’s effectiveness based on the device you use. You can read more about effectiveness here: How effective is NC° Birth Control?
Which devices can I use?
The NC° Band, Oura Ring, and Apple Watch are the only wearables currently compatible with Natural Cycles.
We are working to integrate additional wearables; however, since Natural Cycles is regulated as a medical device by the FDA in the US and CE-marked in Europe, we are held to very high standards of quality and testing before our products reach our users.
